The Worms have arrived!

The Worms have arrived - they are just settling in to their new home which can take upto a month - then we can start feeding them kitchen scraps.
Picture
We have two species of worms within our wormery:

1) Dendrobaena (Eisenia hortensis) also called the European Nightcrawler
and
2) Red Tiger Worm (Eisenia andrei / Fetida) also called the Brandling Worm – Manure Worm.

Facts
* Worms can eat up to half their own body weight every day and can double their population every 90-120 days!

* Worms can only take small particles in their small mouths. Micro organisms help soften the food before the worms can eat it.

* Worms have a muscular gizzard - the contractions from the muscles in the gizzard compress food with grinding material such as topsoil and when those particles grind against each other, mix it with fluid it will be ground into smaller pieces.
